Joseph F. Crowe

Joseph F. Crowe, of Mashpee, passed away on August 29, 2022 at Cape Cod Hospital following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Vannie) Crowe with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Joe was born on June 4, 1938 to his late parents James J. Crowe, Jr. and Catherine M. (Burns) Crowe in Hartford, CT. He attended school in Hartford, CT, and graduated from Bulkeley High School, class of 1956. Following high school, Joe attended Yale University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in 1960. Right out of college he began what would be a career spanning over 30 years with Aetna Life and Casualty Company where he started as an actuarial student and climbed the ranks until he was named Executive Vice President of PFSD in 1988. Following his retirement from Aetna in 1991, Joe joined Financial Industries as CEO in Austin, TX. Joe enjoyed his second retirement in 1997, and for the next 13 years he and Joan spent their time between Texas and their home on Cape Cod, where they eventually moved permanently in April of 2010. Joe was a man of faith and was an active member of the Catholic Church wherever they were living at the time, St. Ann’s Church in Avon, CT, Emmaus Parish in Lakeway, TX, and most recently at Christ the King Parish in Mashpee where he served as Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He also was a member of New Seabury Country Club. He often volunteered his time and expertise as a tax preparer for AARP in both TX and MA. Joe traveled extensively, read voraciously, and loved his Boston sports teams. More than anything, Joe will be remembered for his commitment to his family, his generosity and his incredible sense of humor. Joe made a lasting impression and served as a role model for those who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Joe is survived by his wife, Joan V. Crowe, of Mashpee, MA; his children, son Robert J. Crowe, and his wife Nancy, of Ludlow, MA, son Stephen J. Crowe, and Kathleen, of Unionville, CT, son Peter J. Crowe, and his wife Sally, of Simsbury, CT, daughter Brenda Crowe Burke, and her husband David, of Heartland, TX, and son David P. Crowe, and his wife Michele, of Hopkinton, MA; his grandchildren, Colleen E. Crowe, Brian P. Crowe, Jeremy J. Hobson, Garrett E. Crowe, Hannah E. Crowe, Collin J. Crowe, Kelly J. Crowe, Shannon E. Crowe, Derek J. Crowe, and Keegan D. Crowe; his brother James J. Crowe, of Haledon, NJ; as well as many extended family members and dear friends. Joe was preceded in death by his grandson Kevin J. Crowe, and his sister Mary Crowe Wetmore. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 74 Algonquin Ave. (RTE 151), in Mashpee, MA. The funeral mass and burial will be held privately.
