Patrick Henry Corcoran, age 83, of Washington, D.C. passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2021, after a lengthy battle with Myelofibrosis, a rare blood cancer. Beloved husband of 57 years to Bonnie Corcoran; devoted father of Leila, Cecily, and the late Amy Corcoran; cherished grandfather of Ava. Also survived by many loving nieces and a nephew.
Patrick was born In Bridgeport CT and attended Millbrook School, Yale University and Yale Law School. He began his career in Washington, D.C. working for New Dealer Thomas “Tommy the Cork” Corcoran, no relation. He served as prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office and went on to represent the glass and oil pipeline industries on Capitol Hill. Upon retirement, Patrick split his time between Strasbourg, France, where he taught a course on American politics and history at the university and West Cork, Ireland, where he hiked, gardened, and spent time on the water. Patrick was known for his encyclopedic knowledge of history and politics, commitment to social justice, loyalty, kindness, and sense of humor.
Services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the MPN Research Foundation at www.mpnresearchfoundation.org. After his diagnosis, Patrick volunteered with the foundation to raise research funds and increase awareness about blood cancers. A celebration of life will be held at his home on Bantry Bay in Ireland late summer.
