Richard Neil McKamy

Mr. Richard Neil McKamy of Ridgewood, NJ, Charlotte, NC and Roanoke, VA died peacefully in the comfort of his home in Sarasota, FL on March 30, 2020 at the age of 81 with his family surrounding him. He was born on June 25, 1938 to Magdelan Hamilton and William Northcote McKamy in Louisville, KY.

Neil grew up in Greenwich, Connecticut where he attended Greenwich Country Day School, before graduating from Phillips Academy in 1956. Also known as Moose to his friends, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University in 1960. For 30 years he worked for the Royal Insurance Co., originally in New York, NY and then in Charlotte, NC, when he was relocated with the company. Upon retirement Neil worked in marketing and sales both of which he enjoyed.

Neil was an avid sports fan who loved to read as well as solve NY Times’ crossword puzzles. He was also known for his vast array of knowledge and trivia and his sense of humor. Since he was young, one of his favorite hobbies was collecting and completing jigsaw puzzles; later he began hand cutting and customizing them for his daughters. He also enjoyed playing tennis and golf. Neil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be dearly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Sue of 55 years, daughters Kim McKamy-Hefti, Brooke Whisenhunt, Allison McKamy-Harding, grandsons Nicholas and Alexander Hefti, Jack Whisenhunt, brother Kent McKamy and sister Brooke Beebe.

There will be a private graveside service for immediate family only at Putnam Cemetery in Greenwich, CT at a future date.
