Robert C. Lefton, 83, of Wilmington, DE, died Aug 23, 2022.
The first of two sons of Sidney and Miriam (Landau) Lefton, Bob excelled academically. He graduated from Yale University and Harvard Law School, after which his career stretched from the Office of the Attorney General of the State of New York, to the IRS, the Justice Department, then locally to a time with Morris, James, Hitchens and Willams. Ultimately, Bob opted for the private practice of law, a decision which brought him satisfaction and no small amount of pride.
Bob really enjoyed travel, turning even the planning of a vacation into a year-long event. In the course of many family road trips he hiked, trekked, and photographed in national parks on both coasts and everywhere in between. His love of soccer led him to lend a hand to the Hockessin Soccer Club; he was an avid reader. Bob loved to sail, whether crewing on his brother’s boat, or later piloting his own, but his real creative passion was for photography. Much of his retirement was spent, camera in hand, excitedly walking the sidelines of his grandsons’ sporting events.
Predeceased by his parents and his brother Michael, Bob is survived by his wife Lee (Margolies), his children Amy Lefton Lawler and Peter (Amy Reiner Lefton), grandsons Josh and Sam Lefton and sister-in-law Marlene Lefton.
The family would like to thank Bob’s caregivers at Christiana Care Wilmington Hospital ACE Unit, particularly Drs. Suri and Pinto; the faculty and staff of Coral Springs Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, and especially Dr. David Estock for their kindness and care during Bob’s final illness.
Service and interment to be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests donations to the Charter School of Wilmington Dept. of Athletics.
