Steven Edward Lasewicz Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 5, 2025. He was home with Donna, his beloved wife of 63 years, at his side.
Steve was born in Bristol, where he lived most of his life. He is predeceased by his parents Steve and Helen Lasewicz, as well as his sisters, Lois Ebel Hochstetter and Holly Grano.
In addition to his wife, Donna, Steve was survived by his children, Jamie Clegg (Bill) of Simsbury, CT, Alison Wolf (Mark) of Canton, CT, Mari Kaye Helsley (Scot) of Lancaster, PA, and Garett Lasewicz (Caroline) of Brentwood, NH and his eleven grand-children.
Steve and Donna attended St. Gregory church in Bristol and loved to travel, especially to Bermuda. Steve was a musician and an athlete. He was a drummer in a jazz band for years and grew up playing football, basketball, and running track. Later in life, he loved playing golf and tennis, especially with life long friends made at Red Oak Hill in Farmington.
Steve will always be remembered for his love for Yale, where he graduated as a mechanical engineer in 1960. At Yale, he was a proud member of Delta Kappa Epsilon and the DESMOS Senior Society. After graduation, he worked as a sales engineer and manager for Johnson Service Company before starting his own HVAC businesses, SELCO Controls and Environmental Service Corporation. He retired in 2001 working for Barber-Coleman/Cosentino, Inc in East Granby. Steve’s work kept countless people in CT comfortable at the schools, hospitals, and professional buildings where he engineered temperature control systems.
Aside from his work as an engineer, Steve was proud of his work as a member of the Board of Directors for Eagle Financial Corporation which is now Webster Bank.
Steve had a deep sense of gratitude for his good fortune and dedicated his life to serving others, especially the people of Bristol. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Bristol where he sold countless bags of Peanuts at parades, served as President (1968-69), and was the Kiwanian of the year in 1989. He also served the Bristol Boys and Girls Club where he was President
(1996-97) and received the Humanitarian of the Year Award in 1989. Steve was also a long time Corporator for Bristol Hospital.
Steve was most appreciative of the opportunities afforded to him in life by his degree from Yale. As such, he was a hard working member of the Bristol Yale Club where he was president several times. He was periodically a representative to the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA) and served the Yale Science and Engineering Association (YSEA) where he was a Director and President (1988-91). Steve was loyal to his Yale classmates and served on the Class Council and Executive Committee and also chaired their 45th and 50th class reunions. He possibly had the most fun as his class’s Golf “Czar” where he kept friendships alive and played some of the most beautiful golf courses in the country.

Funeral Mass will be Saturday 1/11/24 at 10:30am at St. Gregory the Great Church in Bristol. Calling hours immediately following at 11:30am in St. Gregory’s Rosary Hall.
