William “Bill“ Dorsey Weber passed away peacefully on May 21, 2026 in Branford, CT. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Elizabeth “Betsy“ Jenkins Weber, his children, Dorsey (Karl) and Bull (Traci), and by his grandchildren Cole (Amanda), Camden (Jason) and Erik.
Bill was born in Oakland, CA and moved over 40 times during his life, including to Berkeley, White Plains, Washington DC, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, London, New York City, and finally Ridgefield and Branford, CT. He was a graduate of the Kent School and of Yale University.
In his career as a business consultant, his work on nonprofit boards, and his years as President of the Yale Club of New York City, he focused on creating clarity and equity; never meeting a policy he couldn’t simplify, or a new board member he wouldn’t mentor. Talking with young leaders as they found their paths was one of his great joys.
Bill believed in the power of song to build community, a vision that led to his cofounding the Yale Alumni Chorus and continuing to sing with his Whiffenpoofs for 60 years. While at Yale, he was a member of the Yale Glee Club, the Bakers Dozen and the Whiffenpoofs. In 2026, Bill was awarded the Yale Glee Club Medal for his decades of love and leadership of Yale choral singing, the highest honor for choral singing at the university.
His other great loves – besides Betsy! – were sailing, (known as “Willie the Lasher” for tying exactly the right knot), and convening a lively dinner table, where his curiosity led to legendary discussions spanning topics from politics to grammar, inequality to bolognese.
A celebration of Bill‘s life will be held on July 31, 1pm, Trinity Episcopal Church in Branford, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the Yale Alumni Chorus or the Jerusalem Youth Chorus.
